- Hadrosaur Ungual (toe claw bone, duck-billed dinosaur)
- Hell Creek Formation, ~68-66 million years old – Carter County, Montana, USA
- 1.52 inches long
No damage or missing chunks on this prime toe claw bone! An awesome example of a juvenile hadrosaur ungual or toe claw bone. This is likely from an Edmontosaurus, as they were relatively common in the Hell Creek Formation.
This ungual is 100% original with no restoration or filling. This fossil has been stabilized.
Hadrosaurs or duck-billed dinosaurs were plant eaters that had large jaws with what are called “dental batteries”. These dental batteries contained hundreds of teeth in dozens of channeled columns, when one tooth is worn down enough it eventually falls out of the jaw and is replaced by a new unworn tooth.
