- Hadrosaur Ungual (toe claw bone) (duck-billed dinosaur)
- Judith River Formation, ~80-75 million years old – Montana, USA
- 1.19 inches long (3.02cm)
A beautiful example of a juvenile hadrosaur ungual or toe claw bone. This is likely from a Brachylophosaurus, as they were relatively common in the Judith River Formation.
This ungual is 100% original with no restoration or filling. Slight damage on the top side.
Hadrosaurs or duck-billed dinosaurs were plant eaters that had large jaws with what are called “dental batteries”. These dental batteries contained hundreds of teeth in dozens of channeled columns, when one tooth is worn down enough it eventually falls out of the jaw and is replaced by a new unworn tooth.
