Rose-Pink Opal Chalcedony
This beautiful specimen of chalcedony features two-tone coloration, a rosy-pink ring around the outside with a pearly white opal in the interior.
I have seen plenty of chalcedony in my travels through the deserts of the American southwest, but this is probably the most attractive specimen I have ever discovered.
Chalcedony I have come across generally comes in fairly muted colors, from white to pink, light blue, even reddish. But the distinction in colors is rarely so separate as in this specimen. On top of all of this, the central white portion is opalized with low-grade opal.
Chalcedony is a form of microcrystalline quartz and moganite that forms slowly over time as groundwater flows through voids within subsurface rock that is rich in silica.
